Learning Objectives

The department of Biological Sciences offers M.Sc. in Botany with special emphasis on Microbiology, Biotechnology and Environmental Biology. The M.Sc. Botany classes started in the college in 1986 An air-conditioned research lab is available for students under the supervision of the faculty.

Since inception, the master's classes have shown excellent results, and its students have achieved top positions with a high percentage of 1st classes in the university examinations.

Students and teachers of the department are actively involved in research activities. Research facilities are available in a number of fields. Presently the department is carrying out research in Tissue Culture, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Paleo-botany and Plant Anatomy. Study tours, seminars and special lectures by eminent scientists are aimed at keeping students abreast of recent trends in the subjects.

Forman Christian College has a lovely botanical garden; it is an integral part of teaching and research of Department of Biological Sciences. It has a number of rare plants and trees. Experimental fields and enclosures are available in the Botanical Garden to facilitate research work at the M.Sc. level.

A spacious library has a rich collection of reference and textbooks covering all disciplines of the subject. A variety of journals are also available and a collection of M.Sc. thesis is present in the library for reference.

After securing their degrees, students are well regarded by renowned research and public organizations for positions or for additional education. Besides teaching and research work, the faculty of the Department of Biological Sciences is also contributing to the development of science curricula, textbook development, and the organization of science conferences at the national level.
