Library users are expected to follow the rules and regulations in order to keep the library services effective for all its members. The Library would like your visit to be as comfortable as possible and we aim to maintain a clean and pleasant working environment.

  1. Bring food or drinks in the library
  2. Smoke in the library
  3. Tlk loudly or create distractions where others are trying to study
  4. Deface, make notes on or remove library property

  1. Switch off mobile phones
  2. Observe the library regulations
  3. Observe Order and silence
 
 
General Rules:
 
 
  1. Borrower's cards are non-transferable
  2. Students must show their ID cards on demand at the time of borrowing books
  3. Students must present their belongings at the inspection desk at the time they leave the library
  4. Violating the rules and regulations my result in the suspension of the library membership
  5. If a Recalled book is not returned by the date requested borrowing privileges can be suspended.
 
 
Timings:
 
 
The library remains open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday without break. On Saturdays the hours are from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. During summer vacations, the hours will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Eligibility:
 
 
 
 
The following are welcome to use the library:
 
 
  • Faculty members and College Staff
  • Students
  • Visiting Faculty
  • Special Membership (Prior Approval by the Rector)
  • Casual Readers, with the special permission of the Chief Librarian and subject to Library Rules.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Membership Procedure:
 
 
Faculty and staff members can apply for membership on a prescribed form. Students must present their college ID card along with photographs to become a member. The number of photographs required corresponds to the number of books a student is allowed to draw at any one time.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Borrowing Books:
 
 
  • No one can borrow library material on someone else's behalf
  • Books already checked-out can be reserved by filing a written request at the Circulation Desk in the Library.
  • The library membership is divided into four categories. The number of books which may be borrowed from the library at a time is:
 
 
Category A Faculty Members Faculty 4 Books for 1 Month
       
Category B Students Postgraduate 3 Books for 1 Week
    Baccalaureate 3 Books for 1 Week
    A-Level and intermediate 1 Book for 1 Week
       
Category C Non-teaching Staff   1 Book for 2 Weeks
       
Category D Special Membership   2 Books at a Time
 
 
 
 
Material that can not be borrowed:
 
 
  • Reference Books
  • Current issues of Peiodicals
  • Manuscripts and rare books
  • Books specially reserved by the Head of Departments
 
 
 
 
Reserved Collection:
 
 
  1. Books in Reserved Collection can only be borrowed for 2 hours during college hours.
  2. Books in a Reserved Collection may be borrowed over-night during the final hour of the college working day and must be returned on the following day during the first hour of the library. If, for any reason, the books are not returned, a special fine of Rs 50 will be charged.
 
 
 
 
Renewal of Books:
 
 
  1. Books can be renewed for an additional period of two weeks. Overdue books will not be renewed.
  2. The books reserved by other users will not be renewed.
 
 
 
 

Damaging Library Property:

 
 
If a book is defaced or damaged in any way, the borrower will be required to replace the book or pay damages. If the library material is damaged, the policy for "Book Lost" will be implemented.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Late Returns of Books:
 
 
In order to ensure that the library is fully equipped and able to provide books and materials for its users in a timely manner, the library imposes a fine on those users who do not return the books within the allotted time. This fine is used to encourage the timely return of the borrowed library material. There will be no exception to this rule.
 
 
  1. A fine of Rs.2/per day/per volume will be charged if the books are not returned at the time they are due. After 14 days the delay fine will be raised to the rate of Rs.3 per day/per volume. After a month's delay it will be presumed that the book has been lost and a price will be charged according to the nature of the material thus lost.
  2. Leave from the College does not exempt a person from the return of books at the time they are due.
  3. Books returned by post must be sent under a registered cover.
 
 

Duplicate Borrower's Tickets:

 
 
Lost Library tickets are to be reported on paper at the Circulation Desk in order to avoid an overdue fine. However, a charge may be imposed according to the situation. Duplicate tickets will be reissued on payment of Rs.10 per ticket.
