MPhil Physics
The MPhil Physics is a two year program consisting of two semesters of coursework followed by two semesters of research. Coursework includes core courses and electives. Research is conducted in Experimental Material Science, Nanophysics and Nanotechnology and Theoretical Physics. The program consists of four regular semesters of 40 credit hours in total. 24 credit hours of coursework must be completed in the first two semesters while the 3rd and 4th semesters will be dedicated to research. Limited teaching assistantships are available.
Admission Criteria
A 4-year Bachelor’s degree from any HEC-recognized university in either Physics or Mathematics with a minimum of 2.0 CGPA.
OR
A conventional MSc in Physics or Mathematics with a minimum of 60% marks.
NOTE: Acceptance is based upon the 1) Departmental Test, 2) Postgraduate Entrance Admission Test (PEAT), 3) interview, and 4) an overall evaluation of the candidate, including: academic achievement, statement of purpose and English language proficiency.
Provisional admission can be sought by students awaiting final results. Their admission will only be confirmed once they have submitted their complete official Transcript within the due dates.

Required Documents
- Attested copy of the original Matriculation / O Level result (web downloaded results are not acceptable).
- In case of the O Level, a minimum of 8 subjects must have been passed. They should include English, Mathematics and 3 compulsory subjects (Pakistan Studies, Islamiyat and Urdu).
- Attested copy of the original Intermediate / A Level / High School / IB result (web downloaded results are not acceptable).
- In case of the A Level, a minimum of 3 subjects must have been passed.
- Attested copy of the O and A Level, High School or IB Equivalence Certificate (whichever applicable) issued by the IBCC.
- Attested copies of the final transcript and degree of 4-year Honors / 2-year Conventional Bachelor’s and 2-year Conventional Master’s.
- In case you have not received your degree yet, you are required to apply for it.
- ‘Students can submit their Transcript at least till the 7th semester at the time of Admission Form submission. If offered admission, it will be a provisional offer; they must submit an attested copy of their complete official Transcript within 30 days of the beginning of the semester.‘ that (This point is applicable to Fall admissions only).
- Students having a foreign Bachelor’s Degree must get their Equivalence from the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
- Two Reference Letters.
- Statement of Purpose (300 – 500 words) describing the reason(s) why the student is applying to the program, long-term goals and the reason(s) for selecting Forman Christian College (A Chartered University).
- One recent passport-sized photograph.
- One copy each of the Student’s CNIC and of the Father/Guardian.
- Receipt of the Application Processing Fee (Rs. 4000).

- We have collaboration with different institutions at National and International Level. We have signed an agreement with The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy, where every year two faculty members or two PhD candidates visit to attend conferences and workshops which are entirely funded by ICTP
- We take our Students to participate in different Conferences

PhD Physics
At FCCU, admission to the PhD program is made in the research areas which are supported through research projects, and in which faculty research groups are currently engaged. Current PhD students are enrolled and working in both theoretical as well as experimental disciplines.
Admission Criteria
- Minimum CGPA 3.0 (out of 4.0) in the semester system or first division in the annual system in MPhil/MS/equivalent in Physics or Mathematics.
- Passing a subject test conducted by the National Testing Service (NTS) or ETS (USA) in a specialized area chosen at the PhD level.
- In the case of the GAT subject test, a minimum of 60% marks are required.
- In the case of the GRE subject test, a minimum of 60% score is required.
- Passing a departmental test conducted by the Department of Physics.
- Passing the Postgraduate Entrance Admission Test (PEAT).
- Passing an interview conducted by the PhD admissions committee.
- The candidate will submit a research statement along with the admission application.
