The Sociology Department is one of the oldest departments under the faculty of the Social Sciences, FCCU. This four-year program is offered to students who have completed their 12 years of studies or secondary schooling. The program consists of a four-semester course work and a total of 125 credit hours, including a 06-credit final year thesis.
Mission Statement:
The Mission of the Department of Sociology, BS Sociology degree program, is to prepare students for various professional occupations in Sociology and/ or the pursuit of advanced degrees in Sociology by educating them in the fundamental concepts, theories, research, service, and ethics of Sociology and other Social Sciences.
The student learning objectives of the program include:
– To teach students concepts and theories in sociology to help them understand the core theoretical foundations of sociology
– To develop students’ understanding of research methods and analysis techniques used in Sociology
– To teach and develop skills in students to objectively and critically think about societies and social problems, apply that knowledge to the real world, and communicate it effectively
– To teach students about the importance of values such as community service, integrity, respect and dignity of humans, and discipline in addition to professional ethics in sociology
– To facilitate students in recognizing various professional opportunities in Sociology
– Apply the knowledge base, thinking, and technical skills relevant to the future and present job market and for graduate school in Pakistan and abroad
Eligibility criteria for Bachelor of Studies (BS) in Sociology:
- Students who have passed their Intermediate
- A- Level students who have cleared at least 3 principal A-Level exams (not AS Level) Equivalence attested from the IBCC is needed.
- A- Level students who have given their A levels exams in October, November and are awaiting results are eligible to apply, they need to attach a copy of the statement of entry.
- Students who have done their American High School. Equivalence needed attested from the IBCC.
- Students who have done their Intermediate from the Technical Board.
- Students applying for Bachelor of Studies (BS) in Biotechnology must have done FSc Pre-Medical or should have studied Biology and Chemistry in A-Level.
