FCCU takes pride in sharing that Professor M. Arslan from Forman’s KAM School of Life Sciences — along with his collaborator Professor Philippe Froguel from the University of Lille (France) and an international team of researchers from the University of Cambridge (UK) and Pakistan — has found genetic mutations in three Leptin genes related to severely obese children resulting in a high rate of mortality and morbidity.
At a practical level, this pioneering research which has been published today in Cell Reports Medicine marks a significant step forward in better understanding the prolonged clinical ramifications of severe obesity linked to genetic causality in children. In particular, these findings should be especially useful in prompting further research as well as action on the part of physicians and health administrators, with a view toward better addressing an important health issue within Pakistan and beyond.
