The Department of Environmental Sciences organized a seminar on “Bioremediation for Pollution Cleanup” on January 23rd, 2023, at Forman Christian College (A Chartered University), Lahore. The guest speaker was Dr. Muhammad Farhan (Associate Professor) from the Sustainable Development Study Centre of Government College University, Lahore. The purpose of this seminar was to raise awareness among the community and students on the principles and applicability of bioremediation technology. Bioremediation is a nature-based solution to clean polluted environments, including soil and water, and improve air quality, with lower disruption to the surrounding ecosystems. In his talk the applications of bioremediation technology to clean water sources, create healthier soil and improve air quality around the globe were highlighted. The benefits of bioremediation including being eco-friendly, cost-effective, and scalable techniques were also discussed. He dwelled on the need to take the laboratory-level experiments to the real world to reduce pollution.
