Kauser Abdulla Malik School of Life Sciences (KAM-SLS) and The Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) of FCCU organized a one-day Conference on “Advances in Plant Genomics for Climate Mitigation” on 28th June 2024 at Forman Christian College (A Chartered University), Lahore.

This conference was part of an HEC-LCF-funded project awarded to Dr. Muhammad Irfan, and titled “Development of climate-smart cotton by editing arginase gene using genome editing (CRISPR/Cas) tools”. The inaugural ceremony started with welcome remarks by Dr. Muhammad Bilal Sadiq (Chairperson KAM-SLS), an overview of the conference by Dr. Muhammad Irfan, and opening remarks by Dr. Kauser A. Malik (Dean of Postgraduate Studies) followed by remarks from Dr. Johnathan S. Addleton (Rector FCCU).

The dignitaries and scholars from different institutes and representatives of the industry who participated in the conference included; Dr. Muaz Ur Rehaman (Director CEMB, PU), Dr. Naeem Rashid (Ex-Director General, SBS, PU), Dr. Bushra Rashid (CEMB), Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha (Ex-Vice Chancellor UOE & UVAS), Dr. Tayyab Husnain (Ex-Director CEMB, PU), Dr. Ahmad Ali Shahid (Narowal University), Dr. Sajjad S. Malik (CEO, Emkay seeds), Eng. Jawed Qureshi (Owner of Four Brothers), Mr. Irfan Haq (Stewardship Manager, Corteva Agriscience), Dr. Kalsoom Akhter (Director of NIBGE, Faisalabad), Dr. Johnathan S. Addleton (Rector, FCCU), and Dr. Gloria Calib (Associate Vice-Rector, FCCU).

KAM-SLS research students showcased their research posters during the conference, which were evaluated by experts from industry and academia.
