On November 27, 2024, The Department of Environmental Sciences of Forman Christian College (A Chartered University), Lahore hosted a seminar for its project “Scientific and Sustainable Application of Groundwater Treatment Technology for Safe Drinking Water Supply in Punjab, Pakistan.”
During the event, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between FCCU and Dankook University (DKU) to grant FCCU the IP rights for patented arsenic removal technology developed under this project. Rector FCCU, Dr. Jonathan Addleton opened the seminar with his remarks and welcoming the Korean delegation. Dr. Dockko Seok, professor from Dankook University, Korea gave progress update of the project, highlighting the successful execution of the project and the establishment of the Water Analysis Center at FCCU. Mr. Minsoo Park from IPLAB Korea discussed patent research and commercialization strategies for Pakistan. Later, the delegation also visited Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Lahore, Punjab Saaf Pani Authority and Sarhali Kalan Village in Kasur. Under this project FCCU has developed close collaboration with Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resource (PCRWR) and the Punjab Saaf Pani Authority to support safe drinking water initiatives for marginalized communities in Punjab. At FCCU this project was led by Dr. Shinho Chung (Principal Investigator) and Dr. Shazia Ilyas (Co-PI).
Funded by the Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT and Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) with $1.2 million, this three-year project aligns with UN SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and aims to provide safe drinking water to Punjab’s underserved populations.
