A team of BS Computer Science students comprising of Hassan Shakoor Ahmed Yasser and Rifa Salman under the supervision of Dr. AAasia Khanum Dr. Sidra Minhas and Dr. Haroon Shakeel were declared ‘Winner’ in tertiary student category at 21st Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards 2022 held in Islamabad. The students pitched their project ‘Sunno’ in front of a panel of experienced international judges and proved to be the best application in terms of uniqueness, technology, scalability and other factors. ‘Sunno’ is an android application aimed at converting spoken, written or verbal input into Pakistan Sign Language. This aims at bridging communication gap for the hearing impaired people and provide a way of home schooling for them.
APICTA ceremony, also known as Oscars of the IT industry, was held from 7th to 11th December in Islamabad and winners were announced in the closing awards ceremony on 11th December. The event of attended by over 150 delegates from 16 economies like Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand, China, Sri Lanka etc. and Pakistan topped the list of winners by winning the most awards.
