The Ewing Memorial Library at FCCU was honored to receive a substantial donation of new books on Friday, May 17, 2024, as part of the Read Japan Project. This initiative, funded by the prestigious Nippon Foundation and facilitated by the Embassy of Japan in Islamabad, Pakistan, aims to promote cultural exchange and enrich educational resources.
The event was graced by esteemed guests, including His Excellency Mr. Wada Mitsuhiro, the Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan, accompanied by embassy staff. Mr. Aamir H. Shirazi, the Honorary Consul General of Japan in Lahore and Patron in Chief of the Pakistan-Japan Cultural Association, also attended, highlighting the collaborative efforts fostering international relations.
Dr. Jonathan Addleton, expressing gratitude on behalf of FCCU, thanked the Chief Librarian for securing this invaluable donation. Ambassador Wada Mitsuhiro elaborated on the significance of the Read Japan Project, sharing his positive experiences at FCCU and extending appreciation to the Rector. Special recognition was given to Dr. Ghazala Irfan for her notable contributions.
The event included a visit to the book display by the dignitaries and a plaque unveiling ceremony at the Ewing Memorial Library. Additionally, Ms. Shaista Khawar showcased her exquisite floral Japanese art, “Ikebana,” adding a cultural touch to the occasion.
This generous donation not only expands the library’s collection but also strengthens the bonds of cultural understanding and collaboration between FCCU and Japan.
