It is stated with immense pleasure that Forman Christian College (A Chartered University), Lahore conducted a 3-day conference on “Recent Trends in Plasma Physics”. The conference started on the 28th of November and ended on the 30th of November, 2023. This event was made possible by the generous collaboration of the Department of Physics FCCU, Lahore; HEC, Pakistan Academy of Sciences and ORIC FCCU, Lahore. This conference was chaired by former Vice Chancellor GCU and the current Dean of Natural Sciences FCCU, Prof. Dr. Hassan Amir Shah (SI) and the secretaries of the conference were Prof. Dr. Sadia Zaheer (Chairperson, Physics Dept., FCCU) and Prof. Dr. M. Nauman S. Qureshi. The inaugural session was well attended, where the honorable Rector of FCCU, Dr. Jonathan Addleton, shared his views regarding the importance of such activities. Several honorable speakers holding expertise in the field from around the globe contributed by sharing their research at this conference. Notable speakers from abroad, including Dr. Peter Yoon, Dr. M. Fraz Bashir, Dr. Ioannis Kourakis, Dr. Roberto Bruno and Dr. Rodrigo Lopez presented their novel research in this event via zoom. Many notable speakers from all around Pakistan also presented their research in person. The last session of the conference was dedicated to Prof. Abdus Salam and Dr. Anis Alam, Dr. G. Murtaza and Dr. Hassan Shah spoke and told the participants about the life of Prof. Salam and his contribution towards encouraging the initiation of research in plasma physics in Pakistan.
The purpose of holding such mega academic events is to spread awareness among young students about contemporary trends of research in the dynamic and active field of theoretical plasma physics. This will not only lead them in the right direction but will also generate collaborations between different active groups in the field which is essential for the growth of science in the community. This stellar event proved to be a remarkable success.
