Symposium on Environmental Conservation at FCCU on September 12, 2024, organized by the Department of Environmental Sciences and WWF-Pakistan
FCCU’s Department of Environmental Sciences in collaboration with WWF-Pakistan organized a symposium titled “Environmental conservation” on September 12, 2024.
This symposium aimed to create awareness and to emphasize the importance of Environmental Conservation efforts, including sustainable resource use, freshwater conservation, habitat restoration, wildlife protection, and reducing waste and carbon emissions, all aimed at preserving the planet’s health and supporting long-term environmental sustainability for future generations.
The event began with Dr. Jonathan Addleton, Rector, FCCU, delivering the welcoming remarks. Afterwards, Dr. Derk Bakker, Chairperson of the Department of Environmental Sciences presented an overview of FCCU and the department. The symposium boasts an impressive lineup of speakers, including:
- Hammad Naqi Khan, DG/CEO WWF-Pakistan, who gave an overview of WWF-Pakistan efforts on environmental conservation
- Daudi Sumba, Chief Conservation Officer at WWF-International, who discussed global conservation challenges and responses.
- Stuart Orr, Lead Freshwater Practice at WWF-International, who shared innovative solutions for freshwater conservation.
- Adnan Aziz, Chief Program Officer of GIFP, WWF-Emirates, who presented on the Global Islamic Finance Program for Climate, Nature and Development.
- Dr Derk Bakker, Chairperson and Associate Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences, FCCU, discussed the role of vegetation on air pollution management, challenges and opportunities.
These experts brought a wealth of knowledge and global perspective to this symposium, making it a unique opportunity for learning and collaboration.
More than a hundred participants from FCCU and outside FCCU including other academic institutes, government offices and NGOs attended this event.
