Brief Profile
Dr. Mariya al-Rashida completed her PhD in Chemistry in 2011 as an HEC Scholar and has over 10 years experience of teaching and research. She has served as the Chairperson of the Department of Chemistry from 2017-2023. Dr. Mariya was awarded CSP Gold Medal for Chemist Under 40, by the prestigious Chemical Society of Pakistan (CSP) in 2019. She was the recipient of Research Productivity Award (RPA) 2015 and 2016, awarded by Pakistan Council of Science & Technology (PCST). She was awarded IUCr Young Scientist Award sponsored by The International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) in 2016. She has successfully completed two HEC funded NRPU projects worth Rs. 3.7 and 3.9 Million Rs. She has two US patents to her credit (Patent No. 9643169 and 10577327). Dr. Mariya has authored a book titled “α-Tertiary Amines en Route to Natural Products” published by Elsevier, and has contributed a book chapter, “Ionic liquid-based colloidal nanoparticles: applications in organic synthesis” in the book titled “Metal nanoparticles for drug delivery and diagnostic applications” also published by Elsevier. Dr. Mariya has served as Review Editor of Frontiers in Chemistry (Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry section) from 2015-2018, and is currently serving as an Academic Editor of PLOS One since March 2019. She has published over 80 research articles in international peer reviewed journals with cumulative impact factor of 380 (JCR 2022). Dr. Mariya’s research interests are in the field of synthetic and computational medicinal chemistry, her research group is interested in exploring new deep eutectic solvents (DES) and ionic liquids (ILs) as alternatives to traditional organic solvents for synthesis of medicinally important scaffolds. Her research group is also developing polymer supported heterogenous catalysts for multicomponent reactions
