BRIEF PROFILE
Dr. Arslan received his PhD in endocrinology from the University of Wisconsin, USA, He has previously served as a Merit Professor and Vice-Chancellor at the Quaid-i-Azam University and was conferred the national award of Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 1993. He has also been a visiting professor at the University of Pittsburgh, USA and the University of Muenster, Germany. He has supervised numerous MPhil and PhD students and has to his credit more than 130 research papers published in international journals. His scientific contributions have been cited in standard books and reviews on the subject. He has been the recipient of a number of research grants awarded by national and international organizations. At present his research interests include clinical and genetic aspects of obesity and reproductive endocrinology. Currently, he is also coordinating an international collaborative research project on biology and genetics of obesity in Pakistani children in collaboration with University of Lille, France and Imperial College London, UK.
EDUCATION

- MSc Hons in Zoology, Government College/University of the Punjab, Lahore
RESEACH & PUBLICATIONS
Currently, our research focuses on clinical and genetic aspects of obesity and reproductive endocrinology. The most significant outcome of our investigations has resulted in unravelling an exceptionally high prevalence of monogenic obesity in children in Pakistani population. Our collaborative research has resulted in the discovery of a number of new genes and novel variants associated with obesity. Currently, we are studying co-morbidities of monogenic obesity specifically in relation to sexual maturation and bone metabolism in the local population.
