Dr. Saleem Abbas has almost 25 years of teaching experience; he has been associated with the Mass Communication Department at FCCU since 2003. Dr. Abbas’s areas of expertise include Qualitative Content Analysis, Gender and Communication, Visual Communication, and Media Representations. Having an intellectual affinity towards art and Urdu literature, Dr. Abbas has studied visual communication by Pakistani Urdu TV dramas at length and has authored several peer-reviewed articles for recognized journals and edited book collections. During his postdoctoral research in the US, Dr. Abbas examined the effects of different political regimes on Pakistani TV drama.
Dr. Abbas has experience working with some of the country’s leading newspapers and TV channels, such as Daily Jang, Khabrain, Pakistan Television (PTV), and Indus TV. Dr. Abbas’s work experiences in Media highly inform his teaching and research. Moreover, Dr. Abbas’s foreign academic trainings—a Summer School on ‘Online `Journalism’ at the University of Florida (2008), and another Summer School on ‘Peace Journalism’ at the University of Oslo (2010)—have enriched his academic and professional experiences. During the Summer School experience at the University of Florida, Dr. Abbas had the opportunities of internship at CNN and WCJB TV 20. Dr. Abbas has authored two books, one of which is a detailed analysis of Irshad Ahmed Haqqani (Pakistan’s eminent journalist)’s personality and his journalistic writings.
