Brief Profile
Dr. Shazma has over 24 years of teaching, research, and administrative experience in various institutions in Pakistan. She has been a member of the chemistry faculty at FCCU since September 2004. Currently, she is working as a Chairperson of the Department of Chemistry. Additionally, she has also been supervising the MPhil Chemistry program as a Coordinator from 2017-2023. She teaches and supervises students both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She is HEC approved supervisor.
Her teaching interests are Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry. Her research interests are Isolation and study of biomaterials useful for pharmaceutical applications such as binders in tablets, formation of suspensions, capsule shell, contact lenses, targeted and controlled drug delivery devices, and determination of stability constants of metal complexes. She conducted research on biopolymers at The University of Nottingham, UK, in 2012. She is a member of American Chemical Society, USA since 2016. She presented her research papers in the 251st American Chemical Society National Meeting in San Diego, USA in 2016 and in Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy (Pittcon) 2018 and 2020 in Florida and Chicago, USA.
She has attended two international workshops in 2017. First one Global Liberal Arts Alliance Workshop for Science and Engineering Faculty organized by Great Lakes Colleges Association held on June 18-21, 2017 on the campus of the American College of Greece in Athens, Greece. The goal of the workshop was to build an international community of science faculty at liberal arts colleges who share ideas, resources, and enthusiasm about teaching and learning in the sciences. Topics covered at the workshop included: “backward” design in curriculum development, writing student learning goals, matching assessment of student learning to goals, using rubrics for assessment, and the value of using articles from the scientific literature in the classroom to teach fundamental concepts through current research examples. Second workshop was organized by American Chemical Society and US state agency in Melbourne, Australia from July 17-23, 2017. Its title was ACS Global liberal Code of Ethics Science and Technology Leadership institute, and the main focus was on safety and security of chemicals, publishing research, Leadership and Logistics, communicating science. She is a proficient user of Turnitin and Moodle.
