Dr. Zara Masood is an accomplished academic and researcher in the field of communication and media studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication and Media Management from the University of Miami, where her doctoral dissertation explored the impact of climate change communication using TikTok videos and dialogue. Prior to her doctoral studies, Dr. Masood earned an MPhil in Communication and Media Studies from Beaconhouse National University in Lahore, Pakistan. Her Master’s dissertation examined the perpetuation of imperialism in international media. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Design from the National College of Arts in Lahore.
Dr. Masood has extensive teaching and research experience. She has served as a Teaching and Research Assistant at the University of Miami, where she taught courses in news gathering and communication theory. She has also held lecturer positions at FC College University and Superior University in Lahore. In addition to her academic work, Dr. Masood has professional experience in the media industry, having worked as a content analyst at Dunya TV Network in Lahore. She also has experience in design, having served as the Head of Operations at The Works Design Studio in Lahore from 2001 to 2009.
Dr. Masood’s research interests include climate change communication, health interventions in post-disaster settings, and the influence of corporate and political ownership on journalism. She has published her work in prestigious journals such as the International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction and the International Communication Research Journal. Dr. Masood has also presented her research at numerous academic conferences, including the AEJMC Annual Conference and the AAG Annual Meeting.
Throughout her career, Dr. Masood has been recognized for her academic achievements, including a Gold Medal for her MPhil degree and the “School of Communication Next Level Dissertation Award” for her doctoral dissertation proposal. She has also secured research funding from organizations like the UNDP to support her work on the health impact of natural disasters on women in Pakistan.
